To provide and promote an active chapter of the Special Libraries Association (SLA) at UNC Greensboro (UNCG); to provide library and information studies students, in a primarily online environment, with exploration, networking, and job and career development opportunities in special libraries; to promote professional conversation, growth, and knowledge for the benefit of student members, libraries or other educational organizations; to create and maintain an association with the national SLA as well as regional chapters; to provide support and cultivate leadership skills as students prepare to transition into the workforce.

History of SLA-UNCG

Founded in 2016, the Student Chapter of the SLA at UNCG and the Master of Library and Information Studies Department (MLIS) is a brand-new organization run by students, for students. In fact, SLA-UNCG first began as a semester-long project for LIS 657, the Special Libraries course here at UNCG. Our primary goal is to inform members of the important issues and new developments impacting the field of special libraries and information services. As an online organization, our goal is to provide quality information that will lead library students into the future.
